How to extract and translate image text
Get a text translation from an image, not a modified image.
Reviewed
Before you start
- Sign in and open Images with one nonanimated PNG, JPEG or WebP.
- Keep the image within 4 MiB, 12 megapixels and 6000 pixels per side.
- Use readable permitted content and exclude unnecessary sensitive information.
Read an image
- Choose the image in Images and check its preview.
- Choose the source and target languages and review text preferences.
- Review the displayed quote against the translation balance and confirm the operation when ready.
- Compare the extracted text with the image, then compare the translation with that text.
- Copy the result or download TXT. Check numbers, reading order and small print before reuse.
Example and expected result
Try a photo of your own clearly printed sign. The result contains extracted and translated text. Images does not replace words inside the original picture.
Troubleshooting
- Unreadable or empty result: supply a clearer image with visible text.
- Rejected image: check size, dimensions, file type and animation.
- Incorrect extraction: inspect the source text before trusting its translation; do not treat completion as proof of accuracy.
